University, college and post secondary education
To increase your chances of getting a job, you can build on your competencies with studies at university, college or at post-secondary level. If you are new in Sweden and have a profession where there is a great need for staff, there are even more opportunities.
Education within the job and development guarantee program
If you have participated in the job and development guarantee program for more than 450 days, you may have the opportunity to study at a vocational college, college,
university or folk high-school. You need a high school education as a foundation. Sometimes you must have studied certain upper secondary school courses as well
to be able to enter a specific educational program
The Swedish Public Employment Service first assesses whether the education is required to increase your chances of getting a job. Then you apply yourself to
the educational program. You can study for a total of 12 months full time
Education within the establishment program
You can study at a college, university or professional college within the framework of the establishment program. You need an
upper secondary school education as a foundation. Sometimes you also need to have studied certain upper secondary school courses to get into a certain educational program.
Also, it is often required to have sufficient knowledge of the Swedish and English language.
The Swedish Public Employment Service first assesses whether the educational program increases your chances of getting a job. Then you apply for the educational program yourself.
Fast track for those who are new to Sweden
If you are new to Sweden and have experience or training in a profession where there is a great need for staff, you may have the opportunity to take
a quicker route into the labor market. With a combination of, among other things, validation of your skills, practice, language training and
education that suits your needs allows you to find a job faster where your previous education and experience comes into use
This is called fast track and is available for example to teachers, truck drivers, construction workers, timber industry workers, chefs and
in health care. Education varies depending on the profession.
You can receive financial aid while you study in the context of any of the Swedish Public Employment Service's programs. You can receive compensation in the form of
activity support, development allowance or establishment allowance.
